Kate Rowe, CNM, MSN, DNP

Kate grew up on a farm in New Zealand with her nurse turned teacher mother, mechanic turned farmer father and older brother. Initially thinking she wanted to go to Medical School, Kate ended up as a nanny in Windsor, England for a “quick six months”. Six months turned into a couple years and England became New York before Kate moved to Seattle in 2009.

The career plan became becoming a psychologist but once she had started her Medical Anthropology double major, Kate learned of the disparate fetal and maternal outcomes here in the US and about the positive role of doulas in birth. Kate became a birth and postpartum doula through Bastyr University while graduating with her bachelor’s from the University of Washington and worked with countless families from all different backgrounds before realizing her true passion for Nurse Midwifery.

Increasing families access to care in the pregnancy, labor and postpartum period whilst being able to provide excellent, comprehensive well woman and gynecological care was Kate’s goal and she started working on her Master’s in Science at Seattle University specializing in Midwifery. Six months before graduating, Kate started her Doctorate and continued with that part time program after graduating in 2018 and starting in outpatient well woman care.

After finally being done with grad school, Kate moved to Brooklyn, NY to work in an out of hospital birth center as a midwife with the ultimate goal of moving back closer to Seattle to work with a more local community.  Kate is thrilled to be joining the team at Sky Valley to offer full spectrum well woman and gynecological care to the community whilst reinforcing the amazing birth work being done in Ellensburg and the surrounding areas and allowing for a CNM to follow patients into Kittitas Valley Hospital if a transfer is necessary.

In her spare time, Kate enjoys needlework, herbalism, reading, cooking and creating. In pre-Covid times, she loved trying new restaurants, going to the movie theatre and visiting with friends and family. Kate is so excited to get to well acquainted with the Kittitas Valley community and to explore the area hiking and meeting new people.
